Ecclesiastes 1 :8-10

All things are full of labour; man cannot utter it: the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing. 9 The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun. 10 Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us. 

    Man wants what he’s never had, hear what he’s never heard, see what he’s never seen, and go where he’s never gone, etc. Acts 17:21 (For all the Athenians and strangers which were there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell, or to hear some new thing.) Man is constantly searching for something that will hopefully satisfy him. But it is an unending weary round of failure!

    Ecclesiastes is a book that we need to heed in order to be content and especially in order to please God. We seek new things and experiences for the purpose of pleasing ourselves instead of God which only causes constant frustration.

    If new stuff brought about satisfaction then Solomon would not have said, I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and vexation of spirit. His lifestyle not only failed to bring happiness, but his positivity brought about a very negative impact on his life; thus creating more problems instead of solving the ones he already had. His quest for the best of the world only brought more misery, dissatisfaction, and vexation of spirit.

    Solomon whines about what this lifestyle brought into his soul after he sought satisfaction in wine, women, song, new things, new experiences, and excitement. Please read Ecclesiastes 2:1-10.

    Hundreds of years after Solomon, man is still seeking happiness outside of God’s will and that will never happen. Instead of being smarter in this age of education man is only dumbing things down to his carnal level. How low will man go as he seeks contentment in new things and experiences even in religion? MANY ARE LIKE THE ISRAELITES IN MOSES’ DAY-THEY WANT A NEW GOD. Exodus 32:8 They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them: they have made them a molten calf, and have worshipped it, and have sacrificed thereunto, and said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which have brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

    They were tired of the same old God. They wanted a new god that would allow them to do whatever they wanted to do and let them run wild as some churches in America have done. Disorder is certainly nothing new in religious services. Some of it borders on demon worship which is nothing new. As Solomon said, “there is no new thing under the sun.” There is nothing new about religious chaos and spiritual perversion. It is the same old stuff that the devil has been promoting for centuries which caters to the flesh.

MANY ARE LIKE THE ISRAELITES IN MOSES’ DAY—THEY WANT NEW MUSIC.

    In many churches the music has gotten out of hand and the pulpit has become a little stand in front of the stage which has nothing but guitars and drums. The new generation is tired of the same old hymns which appeals to the spirit. Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. They want wild music like the Israelites were using as they worshipped the golden calf.

    There is nothing new about so-called Christian rock which has the same demonic beat used in idol worship centuries ago. Exodus 32:17 And when Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said unto Moses, There is a noise of war in the camp. 18 And he said, It is not the voice of them that shout for mastery, neither is it the voice of them that cry for being overcome: but the noise of them that sing do I hear. It sounds like He is describing a modern day rock concert with the overriding beat borrowed out of ancient demonic worship services. Jimmy Hendrix said of hard rock, “You can hypnotize people and when you get people at the lowest point you can preach into the subconscious what we want to say; that’s why the name ‘electric church’ flashes in and out. The music flows from the air; that’s why I can connect with a spirit.” Surely not the Holy Spirit. There is nothing new about wild modern day music. Ecclesiastes 7:5 It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise, than for a man to hear the song of fools. Even in Solomon’s day some singers were nothing but fools.

    God never meant for worship services to sound like a young war nor for churches to have a honky tonk mentality. A wrestling show on TV is called Monday Night Raw. Now it’s Sunday Morning Raw. Again, “there is no new thing under the sun.” It is the same old rotten demonic thing that is centuries old. Ecclesiastes 7:29 Lo, this only have I found, that God hath made man upright; but they have sought out many inventions.

    There’s nothing new about music being used to tare down the barriers between Baptist and false churches. Even New Mexico has a non-denominational Gospel singing convention. Years ago the non-denominational singers were pushed out of Baptist churches. But they are back. Years ago, Guy Penrod’s dad, an Independent Baptist preacher refused to allow these gospel singers (those like his son) perform where he pastored.

MANY WANT A NEW BIBLE.

    Someone has said, “God wrote only one Bible.” Two problems in religion in modern America are new music and new Bibles. This is nothing new for Satan perverted the Word of God in Eden. Genesis 3:3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. 4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: 5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

     The King James is only true English version of the Bible. But there are many perversions. People want a substitute for the King’s English which they think is out of date. It is not out of date. Since the writing of the authorized version, Victorian English has been slathered by the culture. You do away with the dignity of God when you substitute ‘you’ for the “Thee’s” and “Thou’s” in referring to the King of Glory. Instead of “How Great Thou Art” how would How Great You Are sound? Modern day English ruins the best selling, the most influential, and the greatest book of all time. Preachers who forsake the King James Bible are usually guilty of believing false doctrines such as the universal church and open communion. They just want a Bible that will help them promote their new stuff which is nothing but old lies.

    Doctrinally sound Christians use the old Bible. Those who are afraid of the faith which was once delivered unto the saints are afraid of the King James Bible. Most new perversions weaken the deity of Christ by leaving out the word “begotten” in John 3:16. When you water down the deity of Christ you are taking the most important truth out of the Bible. Show me one who opposes the King James and I’ll show you one who is opposed to the old time religion that Jesus Christ personally established during His life. Anything that Jesus started is higher than the heavens are above the earth and higher than anything that pitiful man has done, including writing his own bible. Isaiah 55:9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways... New bibles only appeal to a vain soul.

    I know of a Baptist church where you are welcome if you bring a guitar or a fiddle and leave your King James Bible at home. It also helps if you have a tattoo. They are nothing new either. God have mercy!

MANY WANT A NEW RELIGION.

    There is nothing new about the “New Age Religion.” New age is old age. The first time I came in contact with it was in the sixties in a college class. By the way, I sensed a weird spirit. It is ironic that educated people have been doped by such ancient ignorance. Reincarnation is as old or older than Buddhism. This demonic recycling of religious garbage does nothing but produce third world godless poverty-stricken countries. It is the religion of carnality. I Corinthians 15:47 The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven. 48 As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy… Reincarnation is the subject of the highwaymen’s song which has been a popular country song for years. Hospice is based on reincarnation.

    I’m not going to be reincarnated, I’m going to be resurrected or translated. I’m not going to be recycled, I’m going to be glorified! I’m not coming back over and over again. This heathen lie is the thing that is behind the green movement, the tree hugging movement, and the far left democratic movement, today. These nuts think that they have come up with something new and different. It is a secular and a godless religion which the antichrist will head up. 

MANY WANT NEW METHODS OF DOING THINGS. I Samuel 6:7 Now therefore make a new cart, and take two milch kine, on which there hath come no yoke, and tie the kine to the cart, and bring their calves home from them:

    God’s way of carrying the ark with staves was out of date. The Philistines, Israel’s enemies, had sent the captured ark back to them on an ox cart. So they borrowed the idea from them just as Baptists borrow unscriptural methods from the world of false religious systems. It’s like the old truck that a company had. They hired a new man and put him on the old truck. It wasn’t long until the transmission went out on it. The new man was worried because he had been told that the transmission was new. One of the old hands told him that he had misunderstood. He said, what they really meant was that the transmission was new to that truck. All of these brain storms that the movers and shakers come up with in Baptist ranks are not really new. They are only new to Baptists. There are no new methods; only old destructive errors. Oh, the vanity of new methods and practices which have no place in God’s house. They don’t work, they never have, and they never will. Ask Uzzah about the new ox cart!

THERE ARE THOSE WHO WANT A NEW BAPTISM. Any substitute will work for some as long as it is not true Baptist baptism. Jesus walked for miles in order to be baptized by John the Baptist. Luke 3:21 ¶ Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened, 22 And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.

    The Triune Godhead approved of John’s baptism and Jesus personally placed the ordinance in His church. Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. Here Jesus places John’s baptism in the local church unto the end of the world and the world hasn’t ended yet!

    God doesn’t approve of such things as Pat Boone baptizing Phyllis Diller in his swimming pool no more than He approves of some unauthorized protestant church sprinkling someone. Baptism is not a Christian ordinance, it is a local church ordinance that belongs solely in a Baptist church. A friend of mine has joined a number of protestant churches in his life. At the age of about sixty he joined another unscriptural church. Another friend of ours who is a Baptist told him, “You’ll get baptized yet.”

    There is one and only one ordinance of Baptism. Ephesians 4:4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; 5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism, The problem with nondenominational churches is they have too many baptisms. I know of one that has Church of Christ baptism, Episcopalian baptism, Seven Day Adventist baptism, Methodist baptism, and no telling what else. They can’t stop counting at one!

THE PRODICAL SON SOUGHT A NEW EXPERIENCE

    No doubt he thought that his father was ancient. He wasted his inheritance and ended up with an experience alright. He ended up in a hog pen eating slop. It wasn’t a new experience but an old one that many rebellious children have who think that they have all the answers. Again, “there is no new thing under the sun.” There never be any worthwhile experiences outside of God’s will.

THERE ARE THOSE SEEKING NEW EXPERIENCES IN WORSHIP SERVICES.

    Speaking in tongues was a temporary spiritual gift which ceased with the completion of the scriptures. I Corinthians 13:8 ¶ Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. 9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. I Corinthians 13:13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity. Again they are having problems counting as well as telling time!

THE ETERNAL VALUE OF OLD THINGS AND OLD EXPERIENCES. Jeremiah 6:16 Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein. The “Old Time Way’’ gives spiritual rest! Isn’t that what you want?

    Experiencing the grace of God. The ancient experience of grace is the greatest experience that one can have. Absolutely no experience can be compared to it. This is the one and only experience that saves the soul and gives eternal life in heaven. Have you experienced the saving grace of God? It is the same experience that Adam and Eve had. It is even older than time itself for it originated in eternity past. Revelation 13:8 And all that dwell on the earth shall worship him, every one whose name hath not been written from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb that hath been slain.

    Experiencing maturity. Ephesians 4:15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: Growing in grace is the only way to find the satisfaction you are longing for. Only God’s eternal methods will produce lasting results! Seek the eternal instead of vanity and vexation of spirit. Don’t trade your sanity for your pride and vanity.

    Experiencing living by faith. This is the life time experience of being faithful to God Hebrews 11:8 By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. 9 By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise: 10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God. Abraham's life wasn’t affected by what he saw but by the unseen. If you spend your life longing for only what you see you will never have the outstanding spiritual experiences in life that God has in store for you. You will only experience vanity and vexation of spirit.

    Experiencing the spiritual life. Galatians 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. Carnality in any and every fashion has never produced lasting contentment. It only produces vanity and vexation of spirit. Only walking in the Spirit brings satisfaction.

     Experiencing completion and maturity. I Peter 5:10 ¶ But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. Settle down in Christ. Be a complete person, an established person, and a strong spiritual Christian. Today far too many never mature.

    Experiencing “the old time” religion. Jeremiah 6:16 Walk in the old paths and ye shall find rest for your souls. Isn’t that what you want in the 21st century? Jeremiah wrote this over 2,600 years ago and it is as good as it ever was! Come back to the archives of God which are found in the old King James. The cure for your restless heart is the application of the God inspired Bible which contains the instructions for life and especially eternal life. This is your creator speaking to you and He knows it all! Only He can save you from the vanity and vexation of spirit.
