Romans 8:21

“Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage 

of corruption into the glorious Liberty of the children of God.”

    The word “glorious” means magnificent, wonderful, splendid, and to be highly praised. The liberty of the children of God is truly magnificent, wonderful, and splendid; therefore it is to be highly praised by those who have been delivered from the bondage of corruption.

    There is a song entitled, The Statue of Liberty which says, “In New York harbor stands a lady with a torch raised to the sky and all who see her knows she stands for liberty for you and me. I’m so glad to be called an American, to be named with the brave and the free. I will honor our flag and our trust in God and the Statue of Liberty.

    On lonely Golgotha stood a cross with my Lord raised to the sky and all who knell there live forever as all the saved can testify. I’m so glad to be called a Christian to be named with the ransomed and the whole. As the statue liberates the citizen so the cross liberates the soul.

    Oh, the cross is my statue of liberty for it was there that my soul was set free. Unashamed, I’ll proclaim that old rugged cross is my statue of liberty.” 

THE LIBERTY OF THE CHILDREN OF GOD IS “GLORIOUS” BECAUSE OF ITS ORIGIN.

    Liberty did not originate in America on July 4, 1776 with the signing of the Declaration of Independence. It did not originate with men such as George Washington, Paul Revere, and Patrick Henry. It began in the greatest meeting of minds in the counsel halls of eternity past when God the Father and God the Son laid out the plan of blood redemption which would deliver men from the bondage of corruption and make him gloriously free. Revelation 13:8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

    As the old song says, God is the author of liberty. It has always been God’s will that all people everywhere be physically, mentally, and spiritually free. When Israel was in Egyptian bondage God told Pharaoh through Moses seven times, Let my people go. The same message is heard all over the modern day world. The Lord says to the communists and socialists, Let my people go. He says to those who have His people in bondage to religious error, Let my people go. God says to Catholicism, Let my people go. He says to Protestantism, Let my people go. God says to modern day non-denominationalism, Let my people go. He says to cowboy churches, Let my people go. He says to para church organizations, Let my people go. God says to that powerful Baptist convention or association, Let my people go. He says to that gang of preachers who stick their noses in other church’s business and limit the independence of a local church, Let my people go. He says to that powerful family clan or church clique, Let my people go. The Lord says to the pastor who lords it over His heritage and practices apostolic succession, Let my people go. The Lord says to that ex-pastor who meddles in the present pastor’s business, Let my people go. He says, to that honcho deacon or board of controlling deacons, Let my people go. God says to the lodge, Let my people go. God says to that church who has the pastor beat down, Let my people go. The Lord says to all rebels who usurp His authority over His churches and His people, Let my people go.

    When the people asked Gideon and his son to reign over them, Gideon said to them, I will not rule over you, neither shall my son rule over you: the LORD shall rule over you. Judges 8:23 The most useless thing in the world is a little Baptist dictator or a pope. Matthew 20:25 But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them. 26 But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister... Jesus is saying remove the chain of command and the pecking order from my church. You cannot be free by taking freedom from others and ruling over them, regardless of who you think you are.

   The message is loud and clear as the Lord says, quit interfering with “the glorious liberty” that I planned for my people in the counsel halls of eternity and provided on the cross of Calvary. If you refuse to let God’s people go you may end up like Pharaoh and get your last drink of water.

THE LIBERTY OF THE CHILDREN OF GOD IS “GLORIOUS” BECAUSE OF THE BONDAGE FROM WHICH WE HAVE BEEN DELIVERED. 

...shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.

   Man is a bond slave to the corruption of sin, which makes him helpless to deliver himself. I Timothy 2:26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

   It is from the bondage of corruption into... We have been delivered from corruption. We have been delivered from sin. We have been delivered from the old devil, himself. We have been forever delivered from the fires of an eternal hell. We are free, free indeed; therefore we should highly praise this wonderful, magnificent, and splendid liberty that we have been freely given in the Lord Jesus Christ. John 8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. Slavery is terrible, it is awful, it is just about the worst thing that can happen to an individual; while freedom is the best. Until abortion, slavery was the worst thing that ever happened in America. Freedom is what gives joy to life. It is a release from bondage to an unhindered life that was not possible before.

    We in America understand very little about physical slavery. Our Baptist forefathers suffered because of the absence of religious liberty. They came to America to escape religious slavery. In spite of the sacrifice and dangers they faced, being free to worship God in spirit and in truth was well worth the price. In The Trail of Blood we read, “Hundreds of martyrs embraced the stake...for Jesus and His cause. While the miser sought for gold, the man of pleasure for...delight, the scholar for literary fame, the conqueror...for earthly crowns of royalty, they sought to add new triumphs to the crucified Redeemer” May we as they, Buy the truth, and sell it not;

THE LIBERTY OF THE CHILDREN OF GOD IS “GLORIOUS” BECAUSE OF ITS BASIS.

    The glorious liberty of the children of God is based solely on truth. John 8:31 ¶ Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; 32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. Truth and freedom cannot be separated. Psalms 119:45 And I will walk at liberty: for I seek thy precepts. You can either continue in the truth and be free or you can reject the Word of God and be in bondage. Jesus plainly told His disciples that freedom is based not upon just knowing the truth. You must follow the truth as well. By the way, this includes all things of God including church truth which is old time Baptist truth, which has been known for over a century as Landmarkism. Ephesians 4:4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; 5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. This is nothing but old time two thousand year old Baptist doctrine based entirely upon the Bible. I’m as free as anybody. I was bred, born, and raised an old time Baptist. When I die I’ll be Baptist dead and when I get to heaven I’ll be a member of the New Jerusalem Baptist church where I can worship Jesus in His physical presence and “in truth”. The liberty of the children of God is magnificent, wonderful, splendid, and “glorious” therefore let us highly praise it. Live free by getting saved from the bondage of corruption and joining and faithfully attending a true old time gospel preaching Baptist church. Aren’t you tired of the bondage of corruption. Isn’t it time for you to be gloriously free? LIVE FREE OR DIE! “GIVE ME LIBERTY OR GIVE ME DEATH!”

    America has been free for over two centuries because she was founded upon Bible truth. But with America’s rejection of the truth our freedom is slipping away. For years America’s respect for the Bible has kept her free. Many politicians seem to think that they have the solution for America’s problem. No, only the Great Liberator, the Lord Jesus Christ has the solution. He says learn the truth, follow the truth, and the truth shall make you free. AMERICA, GET BACK TO GOD AND HIS WORD AND ENJOY THE LIBERTY THAT OUR FOREFATHERS HAD.

    But the greatest freedom is coming for the children of God. This is what our text is all about. It is about Jesus coming and changing us. I Corinthians 15:53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. Finally, I’ll be free, completely free, free from me. Oh, the glorious liberty of the children of God in its final state.

THE LIBERTY OF THE CHILDREN OF GOD IS “GLORIOUS” BECAUSE OF ITS COST.

    The most expensive thing is the glorious liberty of the children of God.. II Corinthians 8:9 For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich. The richest became the poorest in order that we might be free from the bondage of corruption. He was striped naked on the cross. He absolutely give it all in order that we might enjoy this magnificent, splendid, wonderful, highly praised, and glorious liberty.

   The glorious liberty of the children of God cost Jesus His life’s blood. I Peter 1:18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; 19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: 20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,

    More than anything the glorious liberty of the children of God cost Jesus His soul. Isaiah 53:10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand. He bared His very soul on the altar of the cross. Mark 15:34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? The consummation of His very soul by the wrath of God took place at Golgotha. At the darkest hour ever known the fire of hell literally devoured the spirit of our Lord and Savior in order that we might forever be free from the bondage of corruption and enjoy the magnificent, the wonderful, the splendid, and the glorious liberty of the children of God. 

THE LIBERTY OF THE CHILDREN OF GOD IS GLORIOUS BECAUSE OF ITS CHALLENGE.

    Being gloriously free doesn’t give us the right to interfere with the freedom of others and do as we please. My freedom stops at the end of your nose. I Corinthians 8:13 Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend. Paul was free to eat whatever he wanted. But if he ate meat that had been offered to idols it might offend a weak Christian. Our “glorious liberty” challenges us to be careful what we do and what we say, so we won’t do damage to others. Along with the great privilege of being magnificently liberated there is an awesome responsibility that challenges us to be very careful in our every day lives.

    Our “glorious liberty” frees us for true service to the Lord. We are to freely serve Him and worship Him as David did. Psalms 116:16 O LORD, truly I am thy servant; I am thy servant, and the son of thine handmaid: thou hast loosed my bonds. There is real liberty in serving the one who liberated us. In one of the movie versions of the Alamo, Jim Bowie gave his slave his freedom papers and then told him to get out of the Alamo before he was killed. He told Bowie, since you set me free you cannot tell me what to do. The old slave stayed and when the Mexican soldiers broke into the room where a wounded Bowie was laying on a bed the ex-slave jumped of top of Bowie and they had to kill him to get to Bowie. He never was a slave. You loose nothing when being submissive to the Lord, you only bask in the glorious liberty that He has so freely given you. Oh, highly praise the magnificent, the wonderful, the splendid, and the glorious liberty of the children of God.

THE LIBERTY OF THE CHILDREN OF GOD IS GLORIOUS BECAUSE OF ITS DURATION.

    The liberty from the bondage of corruption is glorious because it is everlasting. Liberty on earth comes and goes but the glorious liberty of the children of God goes through out eternity. Eternity future is all about ultimate freedom. Therefore we should highly praise it. John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. The scriptures refer to eternal life which includes the glorious liberty of the children of God.

    II Corinthians 1:22 Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts. This is God’s promise of eternal freedom. Earnest money means that you are sincere in a deal you make. Its not a down payment. It is money that is to be forfeited if you fail to come up with the money to complete the final deal. God put up His Spirit, the Holy Spirit, to show how earnest He was in keeping His children eternally free. If one lost his salvation God would have to forfeit His very own Spirit and that He cannot do. May we highly praise the glorious liberty of the children of God because it is impossible to lose. When you experience the glorious liberty of the children of God you are free once and for all and forever more. HOW GLORIOUS! HOW SPLENDID! HOW WONDERFUL! HOW MAGNIFICANENT! MAY WE HIGHLY PRAISE THE GLORIOUS LIBERTY OF THE CHILDREN OF GOD!!!

Conclusion

“PROCLAIM LIBERTY THROUGHOUT ALL THE LAND UNTO ALL THE INHABITANTS,” FOR THE LIBERTY OF THE CHILDREN OF GOD IS MAGNIFICENT, WONDERFUL, SPLENDID, AND GLORIOUS! Leviticus 25:10 And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a jubile unto you; Every year, every day is a Jubilee and a time for celebration for the child of God for the “glorious” , the eternal, and continuous liberty we have in Christ.  We have a glorious message all the world needs. May we continuously proclaim and magnify the “glorious liberty” that we have as children of God throughout the world. 

    Lost one, in the bondage of corruption, the glorious liberty of the children of God has been proclaimed to you. Aren’t you tired of being a slave to sin and Satan. Repent of your sins, trust Jesus, and be liberated forever and find out just how glorious, how wonderful, how splendid, it is to be a child of the living God.
