Psalms 45:1-17
This hymn is the outpouring of the author’s heart about an elaborate future event. Psalms 45:1 “My heart is inditing a good matter: I speak of the things which I have made touching the king: my tongue is the pen of a ready writer.” The contents of his heart boiling over on to a scroll produce a royal declaration of great grandeur. The term “...inditing…” means the dictation of an authoritative and formal written expression. His God inspired heart is dictating the divine proclamation of the coming post celebration of the accomplishments, the dissension, and the victorious ascension of the resurrected Christ to His heavenly coronation ceremony. The Psalmist’s “...heart is inditing...” the Messiah’s celebration of the first Easter and that is certainly “...a good matter:!”
The Psalmist composes a highly sophisticated spiritual musical cantata staring Jesus Christ, the star of Jacob. “...there shall come a star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel…” Proverbs 30:5 “Every word of God is pure...” The thoughts of his heart which produce the words of his tongue are the Holy Spirit inspired planed event for the most spectacular celebration of the ages. Psalms 68:11 “The Lord gave the word: great was the company of those that published it.” His tongue is the Spirit’s quill. Some computer programs print the words you say on to the computer screen, verbatim. You literally write with your tongue! God penned this drama with the Psalmist’s tongue! “... my tongue is the pen of a ready writer.” This is verbal inspiration in its purest form. (Direct dictation, if you please.) God was using high tech centuries before man even thought about it.
Now, to our main thought in verse 4. “...in thy majesty ride prosperously…” What a bold, overwhelming, profound, prolific, and divine ultimatum! These five words describe the perfect personal traits and the ultimate achievements of the Christ as He celebrated His recently finished redemptive work on Calvary and His resurrection by accelerating to Father’s right hand in ecstasy. He struts through the skyways far past the Milky Way ascending victoriously to the mercy seat in heaven, and the throne of the universe to His carnation ceremony as King of Kings; claiming His blood bought bride which had been taken out of His side on the cross. With His sword at His side the Royal Rider rides for His bride! Psalms 45:9 “Kings’ daughters were among thy honourable women: upon thy right hand did stand the queen in gold of Ophir. 10 Hearken, O daughter, and consider, and incline thine ear; forget also thine own people, and thy father’s house; So shall the king greatly desire thy beauty: for he is thy Lord; and worship thou him.” This extraordinary and incredible celebration of the changing of the universal guard produces eternal immutable results. “...in thy majesty ride prosperously…” RIDE ON ROYAL RIDER! RIDE ON! RIDE ON! RIDE ON! RIDE ON! RIDE ON!!!
This cantata of authentic divine royalty is as high above the human dignity level “...as the heavens are higher than the earth…” As we mediate on this Psalm of great grandeur may our hearts and minds soar out of their natural element to worlds unknown where the creator resides on His golden throne. “... in thy majesty…,” in thy dignity, in thy royal and kingly attire, in thy splendor, in thy lightening countenance, and in the blinding gleam of thy righteousness; “... ride prosperously…”, successfully, triumphantly, and victoriously. “...in thy majesty ride prosperously…” RIDE ON ROYAL RIDER! RIDE ON!!!
This grand musical production is an illustrious prophecy of that one extraordinary person known as Jesus Christ. Psalms 45:2 “Thou art fairer than the children of men: grace is poured into thy lips: therefore God hath blessed thee forever.” Psalms 45:6 “Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the scepter of thy kingdom is a right scepter.” Psalms 24:8 “Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle.”
“This King of glory” is the “son of David, the king of Salem (Jerusalem), the priest of the most high God, Melchisedec,” the son of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and the Son of Mary (not of Joseph)! Once, I met a native American whose last name was Trueblood. What a great surname! This vividly describes the kingly blood line of the Royal Rider. It speaks of the eternal royal dynasty of God and of “...his only begotten son…” who is His only direct descendant and sole heir to His throne. Isaiah 9:6 “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”
The Son of Man lays aside His humility, servitude, and humanity; puts on His kingly garments, buckles on His sword, takes up His bow and arrows as He displays His royal authority and His awesome warlike power and majestically rides “prosperously.” Psalms 45:3 “Gird thy sword upon thy thigh, O most mighty, with thy glory and thy majesty.” Psalms 45:5 “Thine arrows are sharp in the heart of the king’s enemies…” Psalms 45:4 “...thy right hand shall teach thee terrible things.”
He was no stay-at-home king for He traveled far outside the golden gates. Nor did He depend upon security. Once, the news showed Susana Martinez, the then governor of New Mexico, obtaining her conceal and carry license. She didn’t take time to aim; she just quick shot all of her targets like an old time western gun fighter. The governor can defend herself. The Royal Rider was heavily armed as He traveled the heavenly airways; insuring a prosperous and successful ride. RIDE ON ROYAL RIDER! RIDE ON ! RIDE ON ! RIDE ON! RIDE ON!!!
After His resurrection He descended into hell under full power as victor to claim His ultimate eternal victory. Ephesians 4:8-10 “Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. 9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first in the lower parts of the earth? 10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)” He entered the corridors of hell as a warden enters his prison with his keys to find the losers who were hiding out. Revelation 1:18 “I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death” As victorious kings of old paraded the captured soldiers of a foreign country down the thoroughfares of their country to the castle; so the Royal Rider marched His defeated enemies through the thoroughfares of the skies on His victorious journey back home to the throne of heaven. Colossians 2:15 “And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.” It was an exhibition of His majestic power. This was no dress rehearsal nor dry run. It was show time! What a show, as celestial beings lined the skyway to heaven and rejoiced over their defeated spiritual enemies and enjoyed the spoils of war being distributed by the Royal Rider as spiritual gifts. What a ride! What a haul! Not a hoof, a spoil, nor a gift was left behind! “...in thy majesty...” ascend “... prosperously…” on high.
RIDE ON ROYAL RIDER! RIDE ON!!! …..Divine omnipotence and extreme spiritual motivation are absolute necessaries for such a high achiever. Ephesians 1:19 “And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, 20. Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, 21. Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come. 22. And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, 23. Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.” The Royal Rider was highly motivated solely by “...truth, meekness, and righteousness...” “...in thy majesty ride prosperously because of truth and meekness and righteousness…” RIDE ON ROYAL RIDER! RIDE ON! RIDE ON! RIDE ON! RIDE ON! RIDE ON!!!
Human rulers are usually motivated by carnality, greed, selfishness, self preservation, a competitive spirit, jealously, ambition, lust, and other ungodly motives; but Jesus had perfect motivation without any ulterior motives, giving Him unbelievable supernatural power. It was “...truth and meekness and righteousness…” that thrust Him like a lightening bolt from the bottom to the top of the universe. It was divine perfection that empowered Him!
He ascended to the most Holy Place in heaven as our great high priest and forerunner. Hebrews 6:20 “Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest forever after the order of Melchisedec.”
The forerunner would get into a small row boat off of a ship which failed to make the harbor in a storm. The anchor of the ship was fastened to a long rope and placed in the row boat. The forerunner would row the small boat into the harbor and anchor the ship in the calm protected harbor. This guaranteed the safety of the ship during the storm; thus making it possible for the ship to safely make the harbor afterwards.
The High Priest of Israel’s responsibility was to sprinkle the blood of the atonement on the mercy seat which covered the broken tablet of laws in the ark of the covenant. Jesus entered the Holy of Holies wearing the ephod and breast plate which had jewels with the names of the twelve tribes of Israel on his breast and shoulders as a man gently carries a small baby Jesus referred to this in John 20:17 “Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father; but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father and to my God, and your God.” He was speaking of His majestic and prosperous ride as He carried His blood and the names of the saved next to His heart and on His shoulder into the innermost sanctuary in heaven. “...in thy majesty ride prosperously…” RIDE ON ROYAL RIDER! RIDE ON!!!
In the summer of 1958, the Royal Rider made another prosperous journey as He descended deeply into the pits of my dark sinful soul and majestically rode away with my captive heart. As Cleda Strehlow said in her best poem, “He came in a quiet way like the dawn of a new day and brought bright hope. He came to me much the same a life changing way. He left the front door climbing the stairwell to heaven. Jubilation, celebration, glory to God in the highest. And the things of earth grew strangely dim in the light of his glory and grace as he soared up and out!” What a ride as I rode the high places of the earth, ate the increase of the field, sucked honey out of the rock, drank oil out of the flinty rock, feasted on butter of kine, drank milk of sheep with fat of lambs, and rams of the breed of Bashan, and goats with the fat of kidneys of wheat, and drank the pure blood of the grape! Deuteronomy 32:13, 14
He carried my born again heart to the throne of grace and there was the blood sprinkled mercy seat covering all my sins, forever. He gently carried me in as a new born baby and permanently anchored my soul in the haven of rest. What an absolutely perfect and thoroughly complete job of ultimate redemption. What a memorable ride for a youngster. I’ve been raised up and made to “sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:” Have you? “...in thy majesty ride prosperously…” RIDE ON ROYAL RIDER! RIDE ON!RIDE ON! RIDE ON!!! DESCEND QUICKLY INTO THE HEARTS OF ALL MEN!
In the near feature the Royal Rider will ascend again. Yes, Jesus is coming again! I Corinthians 15:51 “Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed” The golden trumpet will sound as the Royal Rider descends toward the earth, translating all the saved, both dead and alive, and carrying us home. What a ride when we mortals put on immortality and we corruptibles put on incorruption in the mist of our rapturous ride to glory. What a ride for a saved sinner! What a ride! “...in thy majesty ride prosperously…” And I’ll ride with you! In II Kings 2:12, we find the words of Elisha as he watched Elijah being translated. “...My father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horseman thereof.” “Swing low, swing low sweet chariot, coming for to carry me home.” I’m leaving this old world in style and riding high! RIDE ON ROYAL RIDER! RIDE ON! RIDE ON! RIDE ON!!!
Seven years later, the Royal Rider will “prosperously” descend again. Revelation 19:11-16 “And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. 12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew , but he himself. 13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. 14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. (That’s us!) 15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. 16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.” This time, the Royal Rider majestically descends through the open door of heaven on a great white steed wearing a blood stained cloak; with many crowns on His head, fire in His eyes, war in His heart, and His blade in His teeth leading the armies of heaven! He comes to destroy the antichrist, save Israel, and reign for a thousand years on His throne in Jerusalem. Isaiah 63:1 “Who is this that cometh from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? This that is glorious in his apparel, travelling in the greatness of his strength? I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save.” “Who is this...?” Once again, it is the Royal Rider. Even so again, “...in thy majesty ride prosperously…” RIDE ON ROYAL RIDER! RIDE ON! RIDE ON! RIDE ON! RIDE ON! RIDE ON!!!
In satisfying His passion for perfection and the consummation of the Father’s eternal plan, empowered by His achievements on the cross and His resurrection and by the perfect qualities of His majestic and authoritative personality; driven by “...truth, meekness, and righteousness,” the Royal Rider rode dramatically, majestically, successfully, gloriously, victoriously, and “...prosperously…” through the celestial airways faster than the speed of light with a host of conquered captives and the spoils of war; thus making the final atonement, claiming His bride, and establishing His royal dynasty and sovereignty over the kingdom of heaven forever, leaving nothing undone, and leaving nothing behind but the smoke of His glory!
WHAT A SPECULAR EXTRAVANZA! WHAT A RIDE! WHAT A RIDE! WHAT A RIDE! WHAT A RIDE! WHAT A RIDE! WHAT A RIDE! WHAT A MAJESTIC, GLORIOUS, SPECTACULAR, MARVELOUS, AND PROSPEROUS RIDE FROM THE BOTTOM OF HELL THROUGH OUTER SPACE TO THE NORTHERN HEIGHTS OF THE UNIVERSE! WHAT A CELEBRATION OF VICTORIOUS DEITY! RIDE ON ROYAL RIDER! RIDE ON!!!
“...in thy majesty ride prosperously…”
